Psychological & Neuropsychological Assessment: Hello! I'm Dr. Ameena Ahmed, a licensed clinical psychologist based in the DMV area. Psychological assessment is one of my core specialties. I take a collaborative and comprehensive approach, ensuring that each evaluation is thorough, individualized, culturally-informed, and provides actionable recommendations. My assessments include a detailed written report & feedback that outlines:
A clear summary of findings
Strengths and difficulties identified through testing
Diagnoses, if indicated, to help guide treatment and support
Personalized recommendations for academic, medical, and/or workplace accommodations
Guidance on next steps for intervention
I work with clients across the lifespan (ages 4+) to address concerns such as learning difficulties, academic accommodations, and emotional and behavioral challenges.
My Therapeutic Approach: My therapeutic work is dedicated to supporting individuals facing the emotional and psychological impact of medical conditions. I specialize in evidenced-based psychotherapy with patients experiencing:
Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Solid Organ Transplant
Chronic Pain
Adjustment to Chronic/Acute Illness
Grief & Loss
Having worked in hospitals, community mental health settings, and medical clinics, my approach is rooted in evidence-based practices and collaboration. I integrate research, clinical expertise, and a strong respect for patient preferences and cultural considerations. Therapy is a dynamic process—one that involves reflection, tracking progress, and making meaningful adjustments along the way. I deeply value trust, empathy, and a strong therapeutic relationship, and I see myself not just as a psychologist but as an advocate for your well-being.
Finding the right fit is important! I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation to help you determine if we’re a good match for either testing or psychotherapy. Feel free to reach out at ameena@nchpsych.com.
About Me: In addition to my work at NCHP, I hold a faculty appointment at Children’s National Hospital/George Washington University, where I provide integrated care in a primary care setting. I earned my doctorate from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, followed by clinical training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Consortium, including rotations at St. Jude Research Hospital and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD, specializing in interventions and assessments for individuals and families affected by medical conditions.
Culturally sensitive care is a core value of mine, and I strive to integrate systems of support, including collaboration with medical providers and family members, whenever possible. My research has focused on self-compassion interventions for caregivers of children with developmental disabilities and medical conditions, and I hope to expand this work further. I am credentialed with the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
